Understanding the Facelift Procedure

The facelift procedure offers a lift and tightening of the tissue in your midface region using various techniques and kinds of incisions. It is crucial to consider surgical techniques and anatomical landmarks to avoid facial nerve injury during the procedure. Another advantage of the facelift procedure is the tightening and redraping of excess facial skin, which can be combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as a brow lift or Botox, to ensure you get an overall refreshed appearance.

Who is a Good Candidate for the Facelift?

We understand that every patient ages differently, but when you start getting bothered by the aging signs, you can choose the facelift procedure. You should be in good physical and emotional health and still have a certain amount of elasticity in your skin to get desirable results from the facelift. You should also refrain from smoking to make sure that you heal well from the surgery. When you discuss your specific concerns and cosmetic goals with Dr. Shaddix, we will determine the most optimal technique for your facelift.

Types of Facelifts

There are several types of facelifts, each with its own unique benefits and characteristics. Understanding these options can help you choose the procedure that best suits your needs.

Traditional Facelift

This comprehensive procedure addresses the entire face, including excess skin on the cheeks, jawline, and neck. It is ideal for individuals with significant sagging and aging signs, providing a substantial and long-lasting rejuvenation.

Mini Facelift

A less invasive option, the mini facelift targets the lower face and neck. It is perfect for individuals with mild to moderate sagging who seek a subtle enhancement. The recovery time is typically shorter compared to a traditional facelift.

Deep Plane Facelift

This more extensive procedure targets the deeper tissues of the face, offering a more dramatic and long-lasting result. By repositioning the deeper layers, a deep plane facelift provides a natural and youthful appearance.

SMAS Facelift

The SMAS facelift focuses on the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system (SMAS) layer. This technique provides a natural-looking and long-lasting result by lifting and tightening the underlying facial structures, facial muscles, and sagging skin.

Each type of facelift has its own set of benefits, and Dr. Shaddix will help you determine which procedure is best suited for your specific concerns and desired outcomes.

What Can Be Expected During the Facelift Surgery?

The facelift procedure offered at Shaddix Plastic surgery is highly customizable, and Dr. Shaddix uses different kinds of incisions and techniques depending on your facial rejuvenation needs. This also depends on your expected results, and it helps us to choose the extensiveness of your facial rejuvenation surgery. The traditional facelift procedure gives you substantial correction together with lifting the underlying tissue and muscle. Your incision will begin at the hairline and go around your ears and into the nape of the neck, allowing Dr. Shaddix access to your facial area so that he can lift the SMAS (or superficial musculo-aponeurotic system).

If you are bothered with mild aging signs and are in your 40s, you will benefit more from the mini facelift rather than the full traditional facial plastic surgery procedure. The mini facelift targets only the lower area of your face and gives you the required subtle enhancement. The incision will also be short; it goes around your ears and allows Dr. Shaddix to improve your jawline and the cheek area. For a balanced and rejuvenated appearance, a neck lift, or cervicoplasty, is often performed simultaneously with a facelift to restore youthful contours and reduce excess fat and visibility of muscle bands in the neck area.

Your facelift surgery will be performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Shaddix manipulates the underlying fat and muscle to give you enhanced facial contours. He will then re-drape your skin over the tightened muscles and skin excision is used to remove any excessive skin.

Facelift Recovery

All patients experience a different recovery but most of our patients have returned to their normal routine within 2 to 3 weeks post facelift. You may experience some bruising, swelling, and discomfort or pain during the recovery. It is imperative that you avoid exposure to the sun. In case of pain, Dr. Shaddix prescribes medication and recommends that you avoid any strenuous activities for the first 2 weeks. You must follow all aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing. Soon, you can enjoy a rejuvenated and youthful facial appearance with results that last long and appear natural.
